Bullet Journal: August 2020

This month’s theme for my bullet journal is simple and was inspired by someone I follow on Instagram (@bujoforstars). I was a bit behind with my spreads this month – and as of now have not yet completed my cover page. The reason for this, I suppose, is that there is not much happening in my life and I am able to keep all plans and dates in my head.

I am hoping to slowly fill in the blank spaces with online talks by authors and meetups with friends.

I am sure the end of August will be a busy one as I get ready for back-to-school. I am hoping that soon I will have permission to go into my classroom and start setting up for the new school year. I am sure that I will need to put practices in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. I am starting to think of adjusting my practices as we will not be able to do a lot of group work.

But in the meantime the days continue to meld into one another and I use my journal more as a diary than a planner.

Bullet Journal: July 2020

This month I could not think of any theme ideas for my journal so I turned to some YouTubers I follow for a little inspiration. I liked the simplicity of using the kiwi fruit as a theme so I put my own spin on it and did not recreate the pages exactly as is shown in the video.

I chose a different quote to the one the YouTuber, Art n Foxes, used because I like linking mine to reading. Reading is one of my favourite things to do and I enjoy linking it to another hobby of mine.

I am pleased with the way the monthly calendar came out: the layout gives a different perspective to what I usually create. I may not be filling the calendar with much this month but at least it looks pretty.

I love my creation of the mood tracker. All those kiwis will look cute, I think, when they are coloured in with different colours – they will definitely give a fun perspective to the tracking!

I tried a dutch door for the first time this month (the videos explains very well how to make one). I like it and I’ll be sure to use one again. I was hesitant at first to make one but now that I have, I can see what fun they are.

My bullet journal this month will be used more as a diary than a planner but I still enjoyed the creation of it.

Bullet Journal: May 2020

When walking in my neighbourhood during April, I saw the beginnings of spring and the unfurling of flowers. I thought to bring the beauty of flowers into my journal for the month of May.

When planning my monthly spread, I wanted something that was quick and easy to create – but still flowery.

For my mood tracker, I definitely wanted to incorporate the flower theme. I added the mood “bored” as in April I experienced boredom and did not have a colour to represent it. I am hoping that I will not use that colour too much this month!

My weekly spreads are also simple. I will not have too many events to attend, but I will use the daily squares to note down my experiences for the day.

As we are still expected to stay at home in May, I thought the quote by Jhumpa Lahiri would be perfect for my quote page:

I love the simplicity of this month’s theme and am enjoying the spring-like feel of it.

Bullet Journal: April 2020

As we move towards the end of April, I thought that I would share with you the spreads in my bullet journal. Using the ideas from YouTuber Amanda Rach Lee as inspiration, I centred the drawings on working spaces around the home. My bookish quote was found on the internet and, unfortunately, I do not know its origin.

As I worked on the monthly calendar, I knew I would not be filling in many dates. What I did fill in were the online teacher meetings with my school administration.

I spent quite a lot of time creating my mood and habit trackers. I love the way the page looks – and as I am filling it in with colour, it brightens my day.

My weekly spreads have not been filled with too many events – except for the online sessions I have organised with my students. I am currently using my journal to write down my thoughts and feelings for the day – a little like a diary. It is definitely working for me.

As we near the end of April, we move towards the two month mark of staying at home due to COVID-19. Working on my journal and creating its pages has been a source of relaxation for me.

Bullet Journal: March 2020

During the past week while on our schools are on spring break and we have been practicing social distancing, I have worked on getting my bullet journal up to date. Yesterday while writing in my journal entry for the day, I realised that I had not yet shared my March spreads in this space. I determined to rectify that oversight.

For March I decided to loosely follow the theme created by Amanda Rach Lee, a YouTuber that I follow. I say loosely as I used a different quote to what she chose as well as a different layout for my weekly and monthly spread. As I enjoy reading, I have chosen to write down each month a quote from one of the books I have enjoyed reading. This month, the quote is from Unblemished by Sara Ella, a Young Adult Fantasy novel.

I used the leaf theme Amanda Rach Lee came up with in my monthly spread. While keeping my spread simple, I adapted her idea to suit my requirements. I liked the way she incorporated the leaves into a mood tracker and thought I could create something similar. I used a mood tracker in February and enjoyed filling it in therefore thought I would work on one again this month.

I adjusted the weekly spread and used a format that I have enjoyed using in the past. The spread has been quick and easy for me to recreate each week in March so far. I am loving its simplicity as well as the colours that I used.

Because of the social distancing so many of us are adhering to, the days this week (and next week) are free of plans. I am using the space, though, to keep a record of what I am doing at home as well as my thoughts.

February Journaling

Last weekend, I finished setting up my bullet journal for February. My habit has been to start creating the habit trackers, then the first weekly spread, and thereafter the cover page and quote. This month I found the perfect quote in my first read of the month.

For February, I decided on snowflakes as my theme. The frosty blue colour and the reminder of snow is perfect for this month as it is the coldest of the year. I am enjoying the simplicity of the theme as well as the colour I chose to use.

In addition to using a habit tracker this month, I decided to create a mood tracker and I am filling in the snowflakes with the appropriate emoji. I think next time I will go for colour as I cannot see my average mood for the month at a swift glance. It is fun to fill in though.

I am enjoying my weekly spreads this month. I have tried out a new format find that it suits me. I like seeing my appointments at a glance as well as having my journal entry separate from the responsibilities of the week.

February is my third month of bullet journaling and I am still enjoying it especially as it gives me the opportunity to be a little creative with my doodles.

A Coloured Library

I have been colouring my bookish page for a while now and decided this summer I would finish it so that I can complete the project I I have in mind. Last night saw me Netflixing and colouring the last line of the illustrated shelf.

My page is done. Now onto the next step!

Colouring to Celebrate

Last week Thursday was World Penguin Day. The Penguin is our school mascot so every year the entire school focuses on these wonderful creatures. In my classroom, my students worked on a number of activities that I had prepared for them – one of which was colouring in a beautiful penguin mandala that I had found.

Colouring is a great way for the children to practice holding and manoeuvring the pencil. It is also a calming activity which most children love to do. I am sure that by the end of today, all the boys and girls will be done with the task and I will put them up on the board for us all to enjoy.

Monster Drawings

My teaching on adjectives using the book Je Veux Un Monstre!  by Elise Gravel did not stop with colouring monsters. (If you missed my post on colouring in monsters, you can click here) The next step in the learning goal was for the students to draw their own monsters. I loved the drawings they came up with – they were so creative. After completing their drawings, and colouring them in, I was happy to see the children using the adjective anchor chart I had up on the wall as well as the key rings with vocabulary cards attached to write down the adjectives they would use to describe their monster.

After noting down adjectives, the next step in the task was to write sentences to describe the drawn monster. After correction, students created their neat copy. These I put up on the wall outside the classroom for everyone to read.

We have stopped working on descriptive writing for a while as we finish our inquiry on structures. When I re-introduce the need to use adjectives, we will be describing objects and living things that can be found in the world.

Monster Colouring

The age group that I teach love colouring and always welcome an opportunity to use bright colours. For a recent activity on writing, I asked them to colour and describe a monster. Using the co-created poster of adjectives, they wrote down adjectives of their choice to describe their monsters. .

Not only do I enjoy seeing their colourful monsters, but I love that the children have managed to describe their monsters using the classroom resources in the language that they are learning.
