Annual Preparations

The next few weeks will be a time of preparation for the holiday season and the end of the year. Art work will be taken down from the boards in my classroom, children’s portfolios will be updated, toys will be cleaned. At home I will begin the tidy-up process I go through every year at this time: summer/autumn shoes will be put away, things will be put back in their place, the children’s clothing will be checked and items that are too small will be donated to those in need. I will begin my grocery shopping for the the days over Christmas: small treats will be bought, chicken placed in the freezer, ingredients bought for baking. In the days before Christmas, I shall buy fresh produce and store it in the fridge. I will also wrap the gifts I have chosen for my family behind closed doors.

I have found over the years that this preparation is worth it. Come Christmas Eve and the days following it, I am able to relax with my family and not spend time stressing about things that need to be done. The preparation helps me as well to begin the New Year in the right frame of mind: our home is tidy and I have been able to rest the few days before school starts again.
