This morning the final preparations for our Remembrance Day assembly took place. This solemn event always brings tears to my eyes and today was no different. The pause at 11am makes me grateful for the fact that I currently live in a peaceful country.

I would like to take this moment to thank all those who have fought for our freedom; and those who continue to help those around the world who cannot stand for themselves.
what do you do for Remembrance Day?

Yes, so many have sacrificed to protect and defend our way of life…and now more than ever, they deserve our respect…I won’t get too political except to say that the public trashing of many of these great people is disgusting….

People need to respect them – they sacrifice a lot for us and our way of life. Sometimes I think people don’t appreciate that.

Unfortunately, you are right – now more than ever there is a lack of respect and understanding of the sacrifices being made every single day…

Pray that some sense is a prerequisite for leaders all around the world, especially the one we have here, to have respect for life and limb and stop waging wars that for their own nefarious means. Of course, the first and most important thing I do is to thank all of our veterans who gave so that the hope of peace for future generations will become a reality.

I think that is the prayer of women all over the world. Sometimes it does seem like a fight to be the alpha male – or dominant county.

It was a strange one for us this year, Colline. We were going to the market with our Portuguese teacher at 10.30. Bad timing really! And then there was a Veteran’s procession at 12.00, which we missed. 11th November is Sáo Martinho’s day in Portugal, associated with wine and roast chestnuts. We wandered home eating from a paper cone of these, and thinking how lucky we are. 🙂 🙂

But at least you were reflecting on the day Jo – and that is truly the purpose.
