If we were having coffee, I would tell you that during this week my mind would often think back to the heat that I had experienced while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. We had a number of cold days during this past week and I did not want to experience them! Everyone is sad to see the summer go – though the children are excited for Halloween.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that as I was away for a week, my classroom is not yet decorated for Halloween so this week I will spend some time decorating. The children do enjoy seeing the skeletons up and the pumpkins covering the surfaces. I am not as excited for the day as they are but, because I teach younger children, I do make the effort for them. I have some activities planned for them which I know my classes in the past have enjoyed.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the following week is one in which I will be preparing to write the first report cards of the academic year. Every year I find that this task is set too early on in the year: we have not done enough to truly know the child’s capabilities and we are just getting used to one another. In addition, we are not given time in which to write them so that means a lot of after-school time is used. My plan is to start doing a little bit everyday so that I am not doing the writing last minute.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I attended a Harper Collins event this week with a friend of mine. We went to see the film PS I Love You as the sequel to the novel has recently been released by the publishing house.

I enjoyed seeing the film and eating buttery popcorn. What I enjoyed even more, though, was the company of my friend. We had a coffee before the screening, and had some time to chat afterwards as well.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that it was very easy for me to get back into my routine after a week’s vacation. The days now will proceed as usual for the time of year. The days are getting cooler and shorter; and the leaves are falling from the trees.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you to have a good week. And if you are living in Canada, don’t forget to vote tomorrow as every vote counts and can make a difference.
What would you tell me if we were having coffee?

I used to look forward to decorating my classroom [and my house] for Halloween but with so many moves over the last couple of years I have lost so many decorations. It isn’t as fun any more for me either.
I am glad things are back to normal for you now!

I think things like this are definitely more fun when you have young children in the home!

It seems that you’re returning to a normal schedule after vacation easily. I struggle with that. I feel I always need a few days after vacation to get acclimated.
I didn’t know that a sequel to that book was published, so thank you for sharing that! I love that movie (and book).

The first day back at work was hard – but then there was so much to do that by the second day it was like I hadn’t been away!
The sequel, Postscript has recently been published. I have read and reviewed it if you are interested: https://collinesblog.com/2019/08/02/book-review-postscript-by-cecelia-ahern/

Thanks! I was “away” from social media, etc. this summer so I missed your review. I’m really looking forward to reading the book now.

It was such a romantic movie. There were some deviations from the book (which I had recently re-read) but they worked.

It must be interesting to decorate for Halloween and see what it means to young minds!

Even though I’ve been retired from teaching for two years now I had a nightmare the other night that I had to do report cards. It felt so real.

It is definitely worst thing about this job – especially the Progress Reports!

Awe, I missed that you went on vacation! I am so happy for you that you could get away. We haven’t done as much Halloween themed things as previous year, but some. We’ve been doing some drawings, paintings, and clay ghosts/pumpkins. We are going to paint our clay ghosts and pumpkins today. It’s still too early to carve pumpkins here, but we are excited to do it as soon as we can 🙂 Thank you for the coffee! Have a wonderful new Halloweeny Week 🙂
