If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am feeling exhausted! It is that time of year again when I look forward to the end of the school year and the summer break. I know I will feel better when the air starts to warm up – and stay warm! The weather has often reverted to chilly temperatures and I cannot wait for warm-filled days.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that on Wednesday I attended the Pembroke Publishers Showcase at which authors of teacher books speak. (You can see my post on the event here.) The event was inspiring and I left there with a few ideas to implement in my classroom. In the afternoon, the organisers had invited some authors of fiction to speak. It was interesting to hear them speak about their experience.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have been building structures with my students in the classroom. On Thursday, I had a person come in to do some woodworking with them; on Friday I helped them build some cars. Next week we will continue with the building as I will give my students time to work on their final structure for the unit. The next few days will be busy and they will be days which the children will enjoy.
If we were having coffee, I would ask you to go for a walk with me. The weather today is beautiful outside: there is no wind, the temperature is above 10c, and the sun is shining. I hope days like this are here to stay. As I have already mentioned, I am ready for warmer temperatures!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am actually up to date with my book reviews! Last month I read a total amount of 10 books – and 9 out of 10 novels I really enjoyed. The poetry collection was a disappointment especially as April was poetry month. If you want to see what I read, head on over here.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you to enjoy the rest of the weekend. My eyelids are drooping and I think it is now time for a nap! Have a good week!
What would you tell me if we were having coffee?

Aww I hope you get some rest this weekend, it sounds like things have been really busy for you! Sounds like you’re definitely on top of your reading at the moment though; I wish I was! I hope the next week is good for you and you got some rest this weekend.

I just woke up from a nap so I feel good right now. Reading is something I always find time to do as it relaxes me. I am reading a very good story this weekend.

We’ve just finished supper because it’s been a busy day here too. We were walking with the locals this morning then after lunch we drove to Loulé for the Mae Sobrana procession. I’ve waited 15 years to see it, and finally made it, Colline! 🙂 🙂

That sounds like an interesting procession Jo. I look forward to seeing your pictures of it.

That sounds like a perfect day! It’s 31C here now, and it will be around 45C in a few hours…phew. I know you want warm, but I would give a lot for your temperatures 🙂 I hope you’re having a fantastic weekend!

We have been under 10c up until today so, as you can imagine, a lot of people are out walking today. I don’t think I could manage with 45c though 🙂

Hi Colleen,
Your post about doing structures with your students reminded me of when I taught a similar series to a bunch of kids. We used Popsicle sticks and glue almost exclusively.
We built catapults and bridge models. It was so much fun and the kids were so into it.
The bridges were my favorite because you can easily teach them about the strength of design of triangles, lamination and vertical versus horizontal orientation. Some of the kids wanted to test the bridges by seeing whose could hold the most weight, but this would have destroyed most of the kids work, so I vetoed that idea. I loved watching their young minds grasp and run with concepts. You have a blessed job my friend.

We don’t go into such detail as I have 6 and 7 year olds in my class – but what I do are the beginnings. I love helping them figure out what could work and I try my best to help them make what is in their head a reality.

I, too, am on a count down to the summer break yet there is so much to do I’m not sure hhow it will get done. But somehow, all falls together.

Yes, it does doesn’t it? I am always relieved when I begin the last Science unit as I then know I am on track with completing the curriculum.

I am amazed at the amount you manage to read along with your demanding job. I love hearing about what you are doing with your young charges. 🙂

I read everyday for about an hour when I get home. I find the time relaxes me a little after the craziness of my day with my young students.

It is my guilty pleasure and something I have enjoyed since a child. I prefer to read as opposed to watching tv.

The end of the year for teachers is so exhausting, not only do you have to grade, there’s a lot of extra prep for the many events. The end is in sight though.

The extra events do tend to cut into teaching time and I would rather be with my students finishing off the curriculum.

Hearing authors speak about their experiences would be really interesting.
It is hard to believe that it is time to start counting down the school year for summer holiday. Exciting stuff. Great coffee post, thanks for sharing.

I have been to a few author events now and it doesn’t get old.
Two months now until the summer break and it will fly by quickly as soon as the weather stays warm.

Thank you so much. It is a quick snapshot of my life which at times seems so ordinary to me.
