Weekend Coffee Share: I Am Exhausted!

If we were having coffee, I would apologise for dropping in so late. After a tiring week, my weekend was filled with mommy events – plus my eldest daughter was using the space I normally use to type my blog posts. She is studying for her final exams and I wanted to give her the area to use. I cannot believe that she is almost done with her first year university – my baby girl is no longer a baby!

On Saturday I went prom dress shopping with my youngest daughter – another of my babies who is growing up. After finding a dress, we decided to look for the shoes next weekend as I was struggling – my energy was definitely flagging. I am hoping by next Saturday that the stores will have beautiful sandals available for her to choose from – though she would love to be able to wear her boots with her long evening dress 😀

Saturday evening was the highlight of the weekend. Our son is in Toronto for a few days and we had dinner together. It was like old times when he used to come over to dinner every weekend to spend time together. We caught up on one another’s lives and had a few laughs. It was definitely like old times! One day the girls will move on too and our dinners together will be what my husband and I will look forward to. This is the cycle of life and we are lucky that we have the gift of our children with us for so many years.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am practising some of the choreography for my practical exam every day. Slowly I am starting to remember the steps. It is a lot to get into my brain – and to remember when I am teaching the people in front of me. Doing this practice, though, is making me active every day and it can’t be all that bad for me – it is definitely helping me get those steps in every day!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that now I need to get ready for work. Have a wonderful week and we will chat next weekend.

What would you tell me if we were having coffee?

  1. If we were having coffee, I would tell you I am going to my volunteer job today with a nonprofit called Fashion & Compassion that works with women coming out of abusive situations, addiction and incarceration. I help the staff with database records and spreadsheets. I always look forward to working with these strong women. Also, there are lots of hugs to share.

  2. What a busy weekend – but filled with family, so all good, right? I would tell you that my wife and I had the most amazing hike, which I will be sharing soon – and that a great walk among incredible natural beauty does so much to reinvigorate me! Have a great week!

  3. Some weeks are just exhausting. I hope you got some rest so you can start the week with some vim and vigor!

In China I’d often smile to see brides wearing sneakers or clunky boots with their gowns. I guess that’s the style and I’m a traditionalist.

    1. You are probably right. My husband and I are the ones who left South Africa so our children would not do. Though Canada is a big country and we cannot be sure they will be near us when they start working (as seen by our son who now lives across the country and is a 6 hour flight away). In the meantime, we enjoy what time we have with them.

  4. I should think that this is a time for enjoying one another and making memories as people grow up and begin to move on. The changes! Best wishes for your week! Enjoy!

P.S. We’re still waiting out the flooding river, as it is expected to slowly retreat during the next week or so. I’m wrapped up in NaPoWriMo month in my spare time.

  5. Sounds like quite a bit of family time this weekend, Colline. Hope your youngest daughter finds the right shoes for her prom. Nice sandals sound like a good touch. Good luck for your exam.
