If we were having coffee, I would welcome you in and offer you something iced. After a few cool days – and a couple of perfect ones! – we are back to high humidity. I was enjoying the cooler air and the fact we did not have to use the fans. Alas, it looks like we are in for a steaming hot day today.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have not been well over the last two days. Getting caught in the rain on Tuesday and then going into a highly air-conditioned place was not good for my body. An itchy throat and itchy eyes resulted (though the itchy eyes may be a result of my allergies). As I am still on break, I stayed at home and relaxed – and read a few more books 🙂
Speaking of books, I am almost caught up with my book reviews – you will see them coming this week. As I am typing, I have two left on my pile to review. I have read a number of very good books over the past two weeks and I hope that you will enjoy reading what I think about them.
On Tuesday I went to a series of talks organised by my school board for beginning teachers. I receive an invitation as I mentored a number of new teachers over the last couple of years. The talks were interesting – especially the one on guided reading. When registering, we received a gift of two picture books – one in English and one in French. I was happy when I saw the French one as normally I receive English books which I have to give away. The picture book looks like a fun read and I already know how I will use it for a writing prompt.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I met up with a friend of mine whom I do not see too often as she lives quite a distance from me. Our children played board games in the bedroom and we sat on the sofa for 5 hours and did not stop talking. Time passed by too quickly! We have set aside another day for our friendship before the summer break is over.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am very excited for an event that is happening this afternoon at the offices of Harper Collins Publishing Canada. I was on the waitlist for one of their events and was offered a spot yesterday. I have never been to one of these events for book bloggers and look forward to it.
That is all my news for now. Next week will be filled with getting ready for school. Have a wonderful rest of the day.
What would you tell me if we were having coffee?

Hi Colleen, As always, I enjoyed your coffee share above. I was confused and interested on one point. You mentioned the two books you were given at the talk, one in English and the other in French. I most likely don’t know some Canadian background, understood easily by all my friends north of our states, but why would you say that your were glad to receive a book in French because most are in English that you have to give away? I didn’t think that French books were in anyway rare in your part of Canada (greater Toronto area – yes?) so I don’t understand your statement. Please catch me up. Warmest regards.

Finding good French picture books suitable for teaching a primary French Immersion class is difficult. We resort to buying books online, and asking people to bring them over from Quebec or even France. In addition, the books that we do buy are a lot more expensive than the English ones.
In addition as I do not have young children, the English picture books gather dust in my home until I pass them along to a friend who has small kids at home.
Hope that explains the confusion 😊

It does Colline. I was surprised to hear that this is the case. Yet another reason to pay careful attention when you share. Thanks and warm regards,

It is easy to assume that French books would be prolific – s Canada after all – but it is mostly anglophone in Toronto.

I’m loving all of your book reviews, Colline; you’re a wonderful resource to me for my future reading.
By the way, I accidentally pushed I don’t know which thing awhile ago, and accidentally sent a comment you left me to the spam folder on my blog; I can’t get it back, but I thank you.

I am glad you are enjoying my reviews Angeline. If there is anything you want added in them, let me know 🙂
As for comments – I know I have made silly errors as well that I cannot rectify.
