Catherine McKenzie has done it again with her recent thriller. 🏕 Twenty years ago Amanda Holmes washed up on shore in a rowboat with a gash to the head after an overnight at Camp Macaw. No one was ever charged with the crime. 🏕 Now the MacAllister children are all grown up. After their parents sudden death, they return to Camp to read the will and decide what to do with the prime real estate it is sitting on. 🏕 When the will is read, they learn the decision is more than a simple vote. Until they unravel the mystery of what happened to Amanda, they can’t move forward. 🏕 The story moves between the past and present as the reader gets to know the different personalities in the story, as well as what happened in the past. The movement between the time frames is done seamlessly and at no time was I confused. McKenzie paced the information perfectly so that I was neither bored nor disconcerted. 🏕 The story held a few surprises and unexpected twists - which I loved. It has been a long time since I have read a memoir that has kept me so riveted! 📖 Samra Zafar’s story encourages feelings of anger at the way she was treated by both her husband and her in-laws. I love seeing the diverse reads that are available today - reads that were not available when I was a teen. 🌺 This Time Will Be Different is a story based on a girl of Japanese descent who is raised by a single mom. CJ is happy helping her aunt in the family flower shop and discovers she has a knack for arranging a bouquet. 🌺 Then her mom decides to sell the shop - to the family who swindled CJ’s grandparents when thousands of Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps during WWII. 🌺 This novel is a story that describes the progression of a seventeen year old finding her own voice and the discovering the importance of finding your own passion. This morning I am reading the memoir written by Samra Zafar titled A Good Wife. 📖 At seventeen, Samra Zafar had to leave her family behind in Pakistan and move to Canada when she married a stranger. In the years that followed, she suffered her husband’s physical and emotional abuse. Desperate to get out and refusing to give up, she hatched an escape plan for her and her daughters. Can you love someone you can never touch? 🌺 This morning I began reading the romance between Stella and Will, two teens who have cystic fibrosis.
