My ears perked up when I heard my daughter play Lights Out by Virginia to Vegas. I liked the melody, and the tune reminded me of a song I used to listen to a long time ago.
I enjoy the way that the singer has melded his song to something I used to listen to as a teen.
My daughter, of course, had never heard of Rockwell’s song Somebody’s Watching Me and didn’t see the connection until I pointed it out to her.
Do you enjoy the fusion of this older song with a new?

I do too – and I love the melody he has created.

I really liked Rockwell’s song and was a bit disappointed that there didn’t seem to be any more from him. Another from the same time was Phil Collins with Phil Bailey – Easy Lover – again with no obvious follow up 😦 That Lights Out number sounds nice I’ll give it a couple more listens 🙂 Of course, the Lights Out track I know best is the one by UFO – possibly a bit loud for this time of night so I didn’t include a link 😉

I have never heard the version by UFO before – not surprising as I am not really a fan of heavy metal music 🙂

Years ago one of our nieces was visiting … she commented on a Janet Jackson song she liked …. She looked confused when I mentioned the guitar section was from a 1970s song .. and then I played her the song. … but I did like the way Janet Jackson used it.

I was afraid you would ask me that … Google to the rescue … Someone to Call My Lover (Janet Jackson) and Ventura Highway (America).
PS: I have a writing challenge … https://afrankangle.wordpress.com/if-challenge/ … hope you join in … probably at least 10 days away.

I enjoyed listening to both songs, although I don’t remember them. My music was the music of my high school and college years – the 60’s.

I have memories of songs from that era too as my parents enjoyed listening to their music as well 😊
