An Unusual Song

Skinny Ma Linky Longlegs. A weird title for a song, isn’t it? I remember my mom singing this song with us in the car after she had fetched us from school. We would sing the chorus with her in full gusto on the way home. What fun!

I am sure my mom learned this when she was a child. Now I have fond memories when I think of it – memories of trips home after school, and of my sister about whom we sang this song. I wonder if my mom and my sisters remember this song.

  1. It is a funny little song. I may have heard it when I was “studying” traditional music for a band I was in (We badly damaged Scottish and Irish music by playing them with a punk attitude (like the Pogues) and setting them to a reggae beat 😉 )

  2. Never heard this song before, Colline. It’s definitely a Scottish accent which the song is being sung in. And what are those items on his feet in the video? They remind me of a pair of Christmas slippers (shaped as raindeers with bells on) I once owned. A fun song, and thanks for sharing those memories of your mum singing the song in the car on the way home from school with you all.
