Good morning to you. The snow is drifting lazily onto the ground. It is calm outside with not a breath of wind. I love it when it snows – and we have not had enough of it this winter. How about we walk outside a bit and enjoy the silent world? When we get back in, we can warm ourselves up with a hot drink.
On Friday evening, everyone walked home while the snow was falling. It was a pleasant walk as the sidewalks were not yet covered with slush. The going-home experience on Tuesday had been different. The sleet caused everyone to walk home timidly as the ice made the sidewalks slippery. Yes, I almost fell and decided not to go to my exercise class. I did not want to slip and fall in the dark streets on my way to or from the gym.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I had a number of students absent this week – some were sick, some were on a sun vacation. Ah, the beach right now would be bliss! And the sun! We still haven’t had days filled with sunlight. This winter is a very dreary one: no snow to cover the concrete sidewalks; and no blue skies and sunlight.
This week I have started seeing parents to discuss their child’s progress in my class. I have spread the interviews over quite a number of days so that I do not have to see them all in one evening. The evening that has been set aside for interviews is the one on which I Zumba – and I would prefer not to miss my class.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the Parent Council at my school bought a projector for my class. I know that both the children and I are going to love it! One of my colleagues helped me set it up and showed me how to use it. We figured out how to connect it to my iPad and were astounded that we could watch YouTube on the screen as well as see all the Apps. On Friday I used the projector for the first time to show the children a video (I chose Caillou). They loved it! I think I will show them a video once a week – it will be good for their vocabulary development and listening comprehension.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I do feel tired and that I am looking forward to the long weekend coming up. The upcoming week will be a four day week but it promises to be jam-packed. Hope your week is a good one – and remember to have some time to yourself.
What would you tell me if we were having coffee?

Our school is lucky enough to have Smartboards in almost all of our classrooms. During nutrition breaks and indoor recess, we will often put on read-a-long stories (can’t remember the website) or stories from http://www.justbooksreadaloud.com/ The kids LOVE listening to stories. There’s also a meet the author / listen to stories on Skype.

You are very lucky 🙂
As our school is a French Immersion one, I need to find French stories online. I am happy to see that the website you shared with me has a French collection. Thank you for sharing the link. 🙂

I will pass on the snow walk as I have enough fot this year.. This morning the sun is agzin sighning. Schools have come a long way since I went. Here the state buys each xtudent a computer. Your PTA brought a video for your classroom. Schools were lucky to have one p rojector for the entire school. Think Positive! Hugs!

The parents did a lot of fundraising to be able to buy projectors for our school. With today’s curriculum, we are expected too use technology in the classroom. Unfortunately the government does not buy these things and schools only get them if they are funded in some way by business or parents.

I feel the reason Idaho buys the computer is because there are number of computer companies in Boise.

That would make sense. Maybe they get a good deal.

Thanks for sharing…and I would tell you what I wrote in my Sunday Potpourri, which you just visited…LOL.
Great idea, having a projector which you can connect to various devices. Enjoy!

I did not realize you had taught. What grades did you work with?

I taught music in SA from Grade 0 to Standard 5.

Lucky children. I was in the crop that experienced neither music nor art. I guess it didn’t help that I always went to brand new schools that h no infra-structure.

I really loved what I did. I felt really bad when after 13 years we moved from Johannesburg down to the coast. I remember delegations of my pupils coming to my gate to beg me not to leave. So heart wrenching and sweet of them. 😍

What a pity we aren’t sharing coffee — I’d love to have heard all those interesting snippets! 🙂
I would tell you that far from any thought of snow, we are in our most blistering period of heat. Having put in a lot of (literal) spadework today, I feel like a raisin. Not to eat, but the way one of them must feel.

I do admit I am a little jealous of the heat you are experiencing – I am a little tired of the winter cold. Hope you feel like a peach soon 🙂

We’ve been lucky to have quite a bit of sun the past couple of weeks but yesterday we had 27 cm of snow dumped on us so we’ve had quite enough thanks. I’m going nowhere today.

I am o envious of the sun! We have not seen much of it since the beginning of 2017.

Snow is delicious when it first starts to fall, but it soon becomes a menace, Colline. Not my cup of tea, at all! 🙂 Hope your week isn’t too tiring.

We are still enjoying the snow. It is still pristine in the playground and it hasn’t turned to slush yet on the sidewalks. 🙂
Hope you are experiencing some sun on your side of the world.

I’m with you Colline, I much prefer snow in winter to rain! Here in Montreal, we got quite the snowfall yesterday. It so brightens up the dreary days. And nothing better than having a nice blue sky to go with!
I bet your school kids love playing at recess!

So true Dale. Instead of seeing dreary, grey buildings we are now focusing on seeing the beauty of snow.
The kids loved the snow yesterday – and I am sure they are looking forward to playing outside today as well. To enjoy the outside beauty, we had a little outdoor learning yesterday 🙂
