Weekend Coffee Share: A Short Week

Good morning. Hope you are well today on this long weekend. What a pleasure it is to have a shortened week – the longer weekend definitely gives a person time to recuperate from a busy work week!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the week seems to have gone by very quickly. On Monday it was wonderful to see my students again after the break. The children were happy to see their classmates too (they certainly could not stop chatting to one another! 🙂 ). Even though they were chatty, they slipped back into the class routine quickly and worked well.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that on Tuesday I attended a full day workshop on teaching writing. (If you wish, you can read the post here.) It was the last of four sessions and I found this one to be the most useful. I intend to do some of the suggested lessons after we have finished our current project in class. Next week in Room 1 will be a week of building. The children are looking forward to it and so am I. I cannot wait to see what their imagination helps them to create.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that each teacher had a turn to speak with the principal and vice-principal to reflect on whether we have achieved our goals this year, and to discuss what classes we would like to teach next year. My meeting with them was positive and I came out of it feeling that I had done well this year. Within the next few weeks we will be writng down our choices and receiving our assignments for next year. I am hoping that my assignment does not change – a change would mean starting plans from scratch again and I would like to spend less time on work next year.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am teaching myself how to use Google Docs and Google Slides. My intention is to make the documentation process that I do in my class easier. I am hoping that using these apps on my iPad will make me more efficient in my work.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am enjoying the long weekend so far and am looking forward to spending time with my family. I would tell you that my girls are looking forward to eating chocolate tomorrow and that, even though they are in their teens, they still want me to hide Easter eggs for them. As usual, the hunt will take place in our home: the weather outside is always cold this time of year. In addition, this year we have ice on the ground as a result of the ice storm. Luckily we did not get too much ice this year and I am hoping that it will all be melted by next week.

If we were having coffee, I would thank you for spending time with me. I wish you a wonderful weekend and hope you enjoy the time with you family.

  1. I am please your review of this years work was positive. That is always nice feeling. Good luck on getting the classes you want to teach next year.
I am trying new thing on WordPres, any time I do I learned something new.
I have a Google Drive, but don’t about Google slides. They must of change the name on aprogram. It has been awhile since I had the time to check out my Google pages.
One thing I would like to connect my WordPress blog to my Pinterest account or if it is not do can’t do it to know that information.

  2. It sounds like it was a very good week, Colline. 🙂 I hope you are granted your wish and that your assignment does not change. I know how hard teachers have to work, especially when you have to start over. Have fun with your egg hunt. Happy Easter!

  3. Hi Colline. It sounds like you had a great week. I hope you get the same class assignment next year. Did your girls enjoy the Easter chocolate? We don’t celebrate Easter, but I love my chocolate. 🙂

  4. My children (17 and 20) were also very put out when I suggested we skip the whole Easter basket thing this year so of course I gave in and made them each a basket! I admit I enjoy the chocolate myself….a little too much.
We have recently converted to Goggle for all our school work so we too have learned a few things about Goolgle slides. It seems quite useful. Glad your review went well!
