This weekend I had the chance to begin one of John Grisham’s novels, The Racketeer. The story centers around a former attorney, Malcolm Bannister, who has been imprisoned for ten years.
“How do you survive for years in prison? You don’t think about years, or months, or weeks. You think about today – how to get through it, how to survive it. When you wake up tomorrow, another day is behind you. The days add up; the weeks run together; the months become years. You realize how tough you are, how you can function and survive because you have no choice.” (Dell Books, New York, p17)
I have not read much of the book yet, but I am looking forward to finding out what he knows about the person who murdered a federal judge – and how he will use this knowledge to his advantage.
What are you reading this week? Feel free to share a few sentences from the book in the comments.

When I go on vacation I usually read something from John Grisham. It’s sort of a vacation tradition. Always thrilling and exiting, but no the kind of book I usually read. This seems like a good one.

I have not yet read anything by John Grisham but recently checked A Time to Kill out from the library. If I like it, I’ll add The Rackateer to by TBR list! Thanks for sharing! My teaser can be found at http://abookaddictsview.blogspot.com/2016/03/teaser-tuesday.html

Great teaser. I hope you enjoy the book. My teaser this week comes from Dragon’s Fire by Anne McCaffrey and Todd McCaffrey. I’m trying to finish this series by reading the books I missed when they were new. Happy reading!

Oh that snippet was a great tease! And the book sounds great C. Hope it delivers.
I am actually re- reading – simple little book called “poetry matters” – just grabbed it yesterday to have something light and I forgot how much I liked the author – this is an old book one of my boys had when in grade school and I kept it just a resource for when I taught art because he had s really cool “soda poem” and one art class we had kids draw and paint soda bubbles – anyhow – when I quit teaching art I still had to keep this little gem!

It is fun and your book sounds really interesting! Oh and I thought of you (well this post) when I read another part of the book today – ready?
poem:
Bury me in the library
In the clean well-lighted stacks
Of novels, history, and poetry
Right next to the paperbacks
Where the kids books dance
With true romance
And the dictionary dozes
Please bury me in the library
With a dozen long-stemmed proses
Way back by a rack of magazines
I won’t be sad too often
If they bury me in the library
With bookworms in my coffin!

I’ve got two going right now: Loving What Is by Byron Katie and When God and Grief Meet. I kind of need a no-brainer one, though, these are both thinker books… 🙂

When I am reading serious books, I need to have a light-hearted one on hand to balance the thoughts and information entering my mind. The titles of the books you are reading sound interesting.
