This weekend I completed the first of Seumas Gallacher’s novels: The Violin Man’s Legacy. As I opened the book, I expected a fast-paced thriller – and I was not disappointed. The tale begins in situ with a murder and a robbery, and continues with the action towards a resolution.
In this story we are introduced to Jack Calder, an ex-SAS soldier born in Scotland. When we meet him, he is working at ISP – a specialist security firm. He is sent to Holland to investigate a diamond heist and follows the trial to Hong Kong where he meets May-Ling, a woman who intrigues him. Together, with the help of other ISP agents, they unravel a web of corruption and confront the leaders of one of Hong Kong’s most ruthless and powerful triad gangs.
The story kept me interested throughout and I regretted the need to put the book down in order to continue with my daily responsibilities. The storyline is believable, as are the actions taken by the characters in the story. My curiosity to see what would happen kept me turning the pages, and not all my guesses were correct.
I would recommend this read to anyone who enjoys fast-paced thrillers. I have seen that Seumas Gallacher has written more Jack Calder novels and I have put them on my list for when I next go shopping on Amazon.
Have you read any of the Jack Calder stories?
