December has begun and, with it, the countdown to Christmas. Children are opening advent calendars and people are buying gifts. I see Christmas decorations in shop windows and on people’s lawns. Talk is about the holidays: who you will be with and how you will celebrate.
I enjoy this month as I admire decorations and listen to Christmas carols. I do not enjoy the shopping, though, and do my best to avoid the crowds. My gifts are bought early on; and food is stored in the freezer. I find it ironic that people push and are impatient in stores at a time when a joyful event is being celebrated. Children do not see the true spirit of Christmas when they see their adults pushing others and shouting with impatience.
This month I choose to focus on the joyful aspect of the season and on why we celebrate Christmas. I enjoy singing the carols and our home is filled with the sounds of our favourites. I look kforward to the family time I will have over the Christmas period: a time during which we isolate ourselves from others and celebrate being together. The festive season is my favourite time of the year. It is a time I look forward to every year.
What do you enjoy about the festive season?

I agree, I love this time of the year and celebrating it with my family, but I do hate going shopping during the festive season.

Time with them, all of our traditions, coziness and the love I feel being surrounded by them.

At some stage I really hated the Christmas season because all I could see around me was drunk driving and some people going on vacation and leaving their ‘beloved’ pets at home with no one to care for them and every day you’d see lost dogs running around in the streets. That really made me sad and it still does. I’ve learned however that no matter what happens, things like this will always be there and people like that as well. What is most important is to enjoy the time with your loved ones no matter what time of the year. I don’t like crowds either and I agree with you Colline. Children should not see that kind of behaviour from people they look up to. Have fun and enjoy the time with your beautiful family. You deserve it. 😀

I try to focus on the positive around Christmas time – and try to avoid situations in which I see the negative (which is why I do my shopping early).

I enjoy the being together part of the season. The sharing of meals.
Happy days of celebrating life!

Togetherness is certainly what makes this time special for me too.

People more than gifts, finding time to be in the company of others that matter. I missed you, Colline. Are you hosting “gratitude” next Wednesday?

I missed seeing you too Paula — and would often check in to see whether you were blogging again. I am happy that you are.
I am still hosting my gratitude posts on Wednesdays. I find that thinking on what I am grateful for does help keep me centred on the positive.

I’m very fortunate that I’ve very little to buy that would involve joining the masses at the malls and shopping areas. I don’t mind being a part of the throngs but as an observer and not a participant. Everything is so nicely decorated that it’s a shame not to get out and admire the handiwork. I’m luck y enough to be able to do it on weekday mornings and not in the evenings or, heaven forbid, on the weekend. 🙂

The best time is early on a weekday I find – there are not so many people milling around. I also enjoy the decorations in the malls – especially the bigger ones. Seeing these are worth the trip.

My favorite part about Christmas is spending time with family. The love is palpable and seems to have a heart of its own. I do not like the hustle and bustle of the crowds either.

So true. And the love seems to regenerate a person.

I love nearly everything about the Christmas season, except the shopping. I love picking out gifts for everyone, but like you, I hate the crowds, the pushing, and all that goes with it. My goal each year is to have my shopping nearly done by November 1st. Once that is out of the way, I can concentrate on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I try to do that as well Michelle – though I haven’t managed to finish my shopping early this year. Luckily I do not have too many gifts to buy 🙂
