Grateful for New Classroom Computer

This year I stepped into a room free of furniture and teaching resources – including a computer to work on and check emails. After a week or so, a working computer was found for me (albeit a bit slow), a monitor as well as an old keyboard. I have not been able to use the Word software on it (the version is too old), but at least I have been able to read and respond to my emails.

Yesterday I received a “new” computer (it has been refurbised). I am grateful for this new technolgy in my classroom – and my students will be too. The monitor is larger meaning that the vidoes from YouTube will be shown on a bigger screen. I look forward to working on my documents and printing from it. The resources in my room are definitely improving 🙂

What have you been grateful for this week?

Last week:

Jessica was grateful for the culmination of a two year project.

Lavender Ladi was grateful for technology.

Pur Vida was grateful for her pregnancy.

Cowpeasinapot was grateful for her dad and sister.

Monisha was grateful for a list of things.

I enjoy reading what others are grateful for – the posts make me think of other things I am happy to have in my life. Please remember to send me a pingback so that I know you have participated.

  1. A computer is definitely a great addition to a classroom, Colline! Am sure your students will be thrilled… And learning will be so much more interesting. 🙂

  2. Gosh I remember way back in the 4th grade (in the dinosaur age) and we had to write a computer program. It was really neat as a kid. Hope your kids love it.

  3. Well it’s good to know your classroom is slowly being furnished, I recall your post when it was completely vacant.
I am sure you will bring your classroom to life Colline, with or without fittings.

  4. When my children were young, teachers made copies on the ditto machine, showed grainy movies on the blackboard, and did their lesson plans in a notebook. Computers have made teaching easier, but better – there are so many more resources available for teachers and students today.

    1. It certainly has. The internet gives us the opportunity to share videos to the children on whatever topic we are discussing. In addition, the older children can practise their reseach methods by browsing the web.

  5. What a great addition to your classroom, Colline! Anything to help our kids get ready for this Technology Age is a good thing. When I was in high school, Texas Instruments came out with their first calculator. We were forbidden to use them because it was important for us to know how to use a slide rule. Hmmm …

    1. The danger is allowing the child to become too dependant on the technology that they do not learn properly how to write by hand. I do enjoy using the internet though to show videos and songs.
