Grateful for Gifts of Flowers

The end of the school academic year is near and I have been cleaning the classroom: washing and disinfecting toys, packing up items so the room can be cleaned during the summer break, taking down posters from the walls, preparing the children’s portfolios and sending them home. I have also been boxing my things as I am teaching a different grade next year and therefore have to move classrooms.

The end of the year also brings the concert for the parents, the class party to celebrate the end of the school year, and the teacher’s gifts. The parents this year have been very generous in showing their gratitude to me. Last week, before a student of mine left for an early vacation, he presented me with this potted plant:

The flowers are beautiful and they look lovely on my dresser. I know that I will think of the child who gave it to me every time I pass them by.

This week I am grateful not only for the gift of orchids, but also for the acknowlegement of so many parents for the work I have done with their children this year. It makes all the extra effort I put in well worth it.

What have you been grateful for this week?

I enjoy reading what others are grateful for – the posts make me think of other things I am happy to have in my life. Please remember to send me a pingback so that I know you have participated.

  1. What a beautiful gift. Certainly flowers that light up any room. You must have been great throughout the semester. Enjoy the break. This week, I am greatful for rather warm winter weather here in Australia. We have sunshine 🙂

  3. How sweet is that?! Beautiful flowers for a beautiful kind lady. It’s so great to be seen and appreciated, isn’t it? So y’all are still in school right now or is it at an end? We got out May 22 and go back around the 6th of August (Mississippi, USA).

This week, I’m most thankful for my daughter being home. She went with her dad to see her sister in Washington DC and was gone for a week. Felt like months. We’re almost never apart. Although, we did better while separated this time. In the past, we both were miserable. We both stayed pretty busy and I suppose we’re gaining a bit more independence from each other. Still, missed each other like crazy. 🙂

    1. School finished this last Friday Carol – and we go back in September.
I know how you feel about your daughter going away Carol. Every time mine go away, I miss their chatter and their presence at the dinner table 🙂

  4. How beautiful are the orchids! Just like your teaching, the orchids are a gift that will go on giving, making the world a better place. While you would do the extras for your students anyway, a little acknowledgement is always appreciated. Enjoy the break. I’m sure you deserve it and are looking forward to it. 🙂
