On Father’s Day it is always my intention to spoil my husband, a wonderful father, with the simple things that he enjoys: spending time with his family, eating a favourite meal, and enjoying a dessert that he does not often have. One thing he enjoys is whipped cream and this year for dessert I decided to make a cake (chocolate -the girls’ choice!) topped with freshly whipped cream and canned peaches. When taking a picture of this yummy dessert, I decided to place the painting my daughter had made as a Father’s day gift in the background. My aim was to focus on the dessert; but I ended up focusing on the painting.

The dessert is now long gone, but the painting is in view of everyone to enjoy.
What is your favourite dessert?

I am a total dessert freak having grown up having a sweet each night after dinner. It did not have to be fancy; sometimes it was just jello with a bit of whipped cream. But it was always a great way to end the day. I still have a sweet each night ( I eat very very healthy food all day) and my all time favorite is brownies with vanilla ice cream.
I actually wrote a post about dessert way way back. Here is the link if you are interested:

Oh, Colline, your daughters artwork is beautiful! I remember seeing some artwork you had done for a school project last year and mentioning how talented you are. It must run in the family. And that dessert looks gorgeous. I am definitely going to try one just like it. It also reminded me of something I made for my dad many years ago. His favorite cake is upside-down cake, and of course, we like it the way it is usually made. But one year, I decided to do a chocolate one, and — it’s interesting — I used peaches too, instead of pineapple. There just must be something about chocolate and peaches that go together. Anyway, it was a hit. But my dad now loves whipped cream about as much as upside-down cake, so I’m trying this soon. Thanks for the recipe.

The whipped cream seems to suit the canned peach more than any other fruit. Though topped with fresh strawberries comes a close second 🙂

I like the focus and the composition. Wonderful. 🙂 My favorite dessert is… I don’t know. There are so many good ones! Blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream was the first visual I got so we’ll go with that.

Thank you for your compliment. I am improving, I think, iin my amateur photos when participating in this challenge. Looking at everyone’s entries does encourage me to think a little more when I take pictures.

I have to tell you about the most amazing dessert my daughter I had yesterday, we were in a small country and town and went to have lunch at this place that seemed to do things with a turkish theme. The dessert had these tiny tiny doughnuts, fairy floss, rose petal ice cream, and in the middle was a ice cream sandwich, it was between two pistachio biscuits with the same ice cream inbetween, it was incredible.
Though I know looking at your dessert, I would have loved that too, why doesn’t whipped cream improve. I can’t tell how much you all love him through this post.

Thank you John.
The peaches on cream idea was one my mom always did. Though she did put it on top of vanilla sponge cake.

Not sure I can choose just one dessert. I think it would be hard for me to narrow it down to a top ten. I’m a sweets fan.

I guess it would depend on the mood then – or even what was for the main meal 🙂

Lovely looking dessert and the picture is great. I have a preference for pineapples topped with chocolate pudding, a dollop of lite whipped cream, strawberries and just a whisper of chocolate sprinkles. 😉

Hmmm, favorite dessert…hmmm. Difficult to chose just one. Anything chocolatey, anything whip creamy, peaches are good. My mom always made a fabulous peach pie. Whipped cream on top of that sounds amazing. It is hard to find a commercially made product that is as good as home made.
Beautiful artwork! I love the way flowers pop out of the design.

Home-made, I find, is ALWAYS better than shop-made. And it certainly disappears quicker too! 🙂
