View from a Ferris Wheel

As mentioned in a previous post, I took a ride on a ferris wheel in a theme park found in Johannesburg, South Africa. As we approached the ferris wheel in Gold Reef City, this what we saw from among the trees:

As you can see, the theme of the ride was the soccer world cup (which South Africa had hosted in 2010). Not only did I take pictures of the surrounding scenery from up high, but also tried to capture a part of the ferris wheel itself from my seat.

This is the view I saw opposite to where I was sitting:

I also had a bird’s-eye view of another section of the amusement park, as well as some outlying factories.

And Gold Reef City would not be the same without a well-known piece of equipment used for gold mining:

We all enjoyed our ride in the Ferris Wheel. And the next time we visit the amusement park, I am sure my children will pull us towards it!

Have you been on a ferris wheel? What was your experience like?

  1. I have been on a few modest ones – but am eager to do that little one in London!
What I certainly have been on is one of those mine headgears, many times. As kids we knew of several deserted ones, and it was an ideal place to climb for the view – preferably armed with a treat of condensed milk to consume at the top/ (Why that, I can’t tell you. It just seemed the right thing to eat when on top of a mine headgear!)

    1. I remember eating condensed milk as a kid – seemed the best treat at that time 🙂
The ferris wheel in London would be a good one to ride – imagine the views from there!

    1. Thank you Alex. We went on many other rides – including my first scary rollercoaster. I could not take pictures of this for obvious reasons (too busy holding on for dear life!) 🙂

  2. WOW! You almost took me to the up! You can’t believe but I couldn’t have done this… BUT with your photographs I can see how worthy to watch from there… Bravo dear Colline for everything. I loved them all. Thank you have a nice and enjoyable weekend, with my love, nia

  3. Condensed milk! I wonder what I’d think of it now? I remember eating Fussell’s off the spoon. Those were the days??? Oh, nearly forgot- nice view and brave of you to get up there.

    1. I could not help be brave when surrounded by four kids encouraging me to go up 🙂
Condensed milk? I remember eating from the tin with a spoon as well. Now the taste is just too sickly sweet! 🙂
